Our goal.

Shape Canada’s Most Livable City.

As a community initiative, ActiveCITY Calgary has a single goal. Transform Calgary into Canada’s most livable city by maximizing the value of our rich sport, recreation and health & wellness ecosystem. As a community, we will deliver this through increased collaboration, alignment and shared learning across the diverse public, non-profit and private-sector ecosystem.

ActiveCITY Calgary is being facilitated by a diverse community board. The board has established three working groups to support ActiveCITY Calgary. The first working group is focused on public engagement and communications. As a grassroots community initiative, have conversations and collaborating with all Calgarians is our first priority. The second working group is a technical committee examining methodology and approaches to valuing the active economy. The first working group is mapping and engaging Calgary’s active ecosystem to ensure we systematically understand its full scope and impact on our city and region.

The ActiveCITY Project is a collaboration of community partners and scholars exploring the active ecosystem and the active economy, including sport, sport business and health & wellness.

Today, the active ecosystem is rich in data and evidence. But the challenge is this evidence is highly fragmented and does not provide a holistic lens of an active ecosystem. As a result, both policymakers and practitioners face a difficult task of trying to understand how this active ecosystem and economy contributes to both economic and societal value.

Our goal is to map the active ecosystem and the active economy to enable policymakers and community and business leaders to shape ecosystem-level solutions to maximize the impact on the economic and social prosperity of our country, province and community.

GET INVOLVED!

The ActiveCITY Project and ActiveCITY Calgary are open for anyone who is passionate about increasing collaboration and connections across our diverse active ecosystem.
